Marbled
Beauty.
(Cryphia domestica)
Against its normal
resting place of a stone wall this moth is almost
invisible.
Information:
Fore-wing length: 12-14mm. They can be mistaken for Marbled
Green moths but the major difference is the first cross-line
which in the Marbled Green is interrupted but in the Marbled
Beauty continues to form an unbroken zig-zag across both
fore-wings. The shades-of-grey marbling can vary to grey-green,
dull orange or green/white.
They like to rest on old stone walls and lichen covered trees
where their camouflage conceals them very well. They can be seen
flying near old stone buildings, stone-walled gardens and old
orchards in most parts of the country during July-August.
