Scarlet Tiger.
(Callimorpha dominula)

A spectacular and very identifiable moth.

Information:
There are two 'flavours' - one with a red underwing and the other with a yellow underwing. With their black background coloured forewing and the yellow and white spots they are unmistakable - although the 'blotchiness' and number of the spots may vary considerably.
Fore-wing length: 23-27mm. They fly June-July and can be seen by day or at night in damp or coastal areas. In years of profusion they will spread to ditches, gardens and woodlands.
