Plain Golden
Y.
(Autographa jota)
Another distinctively
shaped and obviously marked moth - the Plain Golden Y which can,
in some ways, be a little confuseable with the Beautiful Golden
Y.
Information:
The distinctive white letter "Y" is often, as in this photo,
broken into two parts. Strong Red/Brown colouring with paler
mottled areas of the fore-wing. Three turrets of raised hairs
which progressively diminish in height along the thorax.
Fore-wing length: 17-21mm.
They can be seen flying May-August in most habitats within
Britain.
