Light Brown Apple
Moth.

(Epiphyas postvittana)

I was not particularly pleased to see this one near our apple trees.

Information:
An unfortunate accidental introduction some 80 years ago, originally from Australia where natural predators keep it under control. Elsewhere it can be a severe pest as there is no natural and efficient predator.
The colouring is quite variable but the overall impression is as the photograph - light tan colour towards the head and dark reddish brown on the outer two thirds. Fore-wing length: 6-16mm. They feed on a wide variety of plants and have two broods - flying in May-October
