Buff Arches
1.
(Habrosyne pyritoides)
A really beautiful moth
- a closer inspection gave rise to a great surprise.
Information:
Fore-wing length: 17-20mm. Absolutely unmistakable - no other
moth like it. Bright-white and orange. Fore-wing leading edge is
white, a row of small but clear white 'arches' along the outer
edge and, most distinctively, the trailing edge (nearest to the
body) has a dramatic complex 'cut-out' that allows the pearly
grey of the hind-wing to show through.
They fly June-August in most places in Britain where there are
young trees or managed plantations, bushes, brambles and
gardens.
