Flame.
(Axylia putris)

Resting on an egg box with its wings wrapped tightly round its body.

Information:
Fore-wing length: 14-16mm. These moths are quite distinctive and they do not vary much & their wings are folded round the body when at rest. With that very characteristic pose and the dark streaking on the light tan general colour it gives the impression of a broken and slightly splintered twig.
They have one brood and they fly June-July, typically over downs, fens, farms, gardens, heaths and the edges of woods. They can be found all over Great Britain but are more numerous the further South.
