A Bit About Moths 4.

Where can I find them?

Luckily for us, there are some moths, if not butterflies, available for us to see at any time of the year. As the visibility of one species diminishes so another emerges and we can see them as they fly looking for a mate, laying eggs etc. We can find and observe the eggs, caterpillars and chrysalises as well if we know where and when to look and are lucky.
We have all seen a moth, attracted to the light, come in through the window at night. An extension to this is to use a moth trap which is a box with an entrance over which there is a light that the moths find attractive. Moths fly to the light, eventually get tired and settles down - inside the moth trap. The upper surfaces of the moth trap are sloping and there is only a narrow slot for them to get in, so the moths have difficulty getting out and they settle down ... and you get to see them the next morning.
